A modern style small dry bouquet vase. It is laminated from multiple woods including cherry, walnut, and maple.

My items

Using carefully selected hardwoods I create:

*Twig Pots

*Bowls

*Decorative Boxes

*Small Functional Items

The process

1. Selecting the Wood & Preparing the Blank
I begin with kiln dried hardwood. The wood is first cut into a turning blank, paying attention to grain direction and leaving out major defects that could affect structural integrity.

2. Mounting & Turning
The blank is then mounted on a wood lathe and carefully turned using sharp tools. I gradually bring the piece into shape, giving attention to curves and proportions.

3. Fine Shaping & Detailing
Once the basic shape is established, I refine the details—adjusting lines, wall thickness, and balance to achieve a clean & intentional design.

4. Sanding & Surface Preparation
I sand my pieces progressively through multiple grits to create a smooth surface that highlights the natural beauty of the wood.

5. Finishing
Depending on the item’s intended use, I apply a carefully selected, hand-applied finish. This helps enhance the grain and color of the wood, while protecting it.

6. Final Inspection
Before leaving the shop, I carefully inspect each piece to ensure it meets my standards for quality and craftsmanship.

Why Choose Leopard Dog Woodcraft?

Responsibly Sourced

I purchase my material from suppliers that follow responsible hardwood sourcing and sustainability practices. Thoughtful sourcing of hardwood helps protect global forests and ensure these rare materials remain available for fine woodworking and craftsmanship in the future.

Made In My Workshop

Never factory made. All of my items are shaped by hand using time honored techniques, skill, and patience.

Zero Waste Mindset

I prioritize the thoughtful use of material through efficient blank sizing and use of scrap material and offcuts. One of the reasons I love woodturning is that remnants from other larger woodworking projects can be used safely.
